Conditions Dr Amy looks after

Fertility

Sometimes starting a family is not always straightforward. There can be many reasons why there may be a delay. Dr Amy strives to understand the potential causes, and provides a range of treatment options that are tailored just for your needs. Dr Amy is proud to be utilising the expert lab at Melbourne IVF, which offers the latest science and innovation to help create your family

Heavy periods

Did you know that many women with heavy periods don’t even realise? Often, it isn’t until low iron stores or anaemia is picked up, that we start to think about our periods. Dr Amy has many treatment options available that will work with your goals.

Fibroids

Fibroids are a muscular growth in the uterus (womb). They are actually really quite common! They don’t always cause problems, and are very rarely sinister, but if you are experiencing heavy or painful periods, pressure symptoms such urinary frequency, or it impacts on your fertility, it could be time to look at treatment.

Should you require surgery for your treatment, Dr Amy is able to provide comprehensive treatment options including hysteroscopic and laparoscopic approaches.

Ovarian cysts

The ovaries are amazing organs in our bodies. Each month, they grow an egg (or a functional cyst), which could become a baby. However, sometimes they grow other weird and wonderful things. Cysts can cause pain or twist on themselves (torsion) which could injure the ovary. Dr Amy’s extra laparoscopic training means that if you need an operation, it will be performed meticulously.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)

PCOS is the most common endocrine condition in women between the ages of 25-40, but is often undiagnosed. It can result in irregular periods, abnormal hair growth, impact on your metabolism and fertility. Dr Amy provides a holistic approach to PCOS based on your symptoms and needs.

Cervical screening (pap smear) management

Australia has world leading screening for cervix abnormalities and we are well on our way to eradicating cervical cancer. If you’ve had a cervical screening abnormality, Dr Amy can provide management including colposcopy and surgery if needed.

Egg freezing

Egg freezing allows you to be proactive about your future fertility. Whether there is a concern because you have a condition that could affect your fertility, such as endometriosis, or because you would like to understand your options, Dr Amy is happy to discuss whether egg freezing would be a suitable option for you.

Painful periods

Periods shouldn’t be painful, simple as that. If you are dreading yours, have a chat with Dr Amy.

Endometriosis

Endometriosis occurs when deposits of a type of tissue that usually lines the uterus (womb) is found outside of the uterus. It can be on the ovaries, on the back of the uterus… even up on the liver. Endometriosis can have many different symptoms - some women experience pelvic pain, others experience pain with sex, whilst for some women it impacts on fertility.

Having completed an AGES Advanced Laparoscopic Fellowship and a Master of Surgery in Advanced Gynaecological Surgery, Dr Amy is able to provide expert care in endometriosis.

Adenomyosis

Adenomyosis could be considered the cousin of endometriosis. It is where the lining of the uterus actually grows into the muscle layer of the uterus. This can cause painful and/or heavy periods, and can impact on fertility also. It doesn’t always need to be treated, but if it is bothering you, have a chat to Dr Amy.

Menopause

Some women sail through menopause, whilst for others, it can be a bumpy journey. There are often so many changes. Dr Amy believes the time around menopause provides an excellent opportunity to optimise our health and practice preventative care.
